Suspect named in fatal Clarksville shooting

Police have named a suspect in a homicide case in Montgomery County.

Charles Wilbert Sims, 50, was found shot to death early Wednesday morning at the intersection of Reynolds and Dodd streets in Clarksville.

Police are looking for Danyon Dowlen for questioning in the case. Investigators said he and Sims were seen arguing moments before the shooting.

"It sounded like the first four shots were real, real fast - like, maybe a second - and I heard one more shot. That was it," said neighbor Sam Lucas.

Sam and Linda Lucas recalled the scariest night they have witnessed in their 40 years at Reynolds and Dodd streets.

Linda Lucas said she was pulling in the driveway of her home when she heard something just yards away.

"I'm like, 'Is it a shooting range this time of night? Firecrackers?'" she said.

"When I turned around and looked up the street, I saw a guy laying right there in the middle of the street," Sam Lucas said.

According to Clarksville police, Sims was shot multiple times and was found with a handgun in his hand.

Paramedics flew him to Vanderbilt University Medical Center, where he died from his injuries.
