BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - Several agencies are joining forces to tackle the truancy problem in Baton Rouge and now there's a new place for parents and students to turn for help.
There is plenty of pride around this joint effort among city-parish leaders.
The district attorney's office, social services and the East Baton Rouge Parish School System are all involved.
The idea of this center is to get to the bottom of why some students repeatedly miss school and get families a little more assistance.
This center is called the Family and Youth Service Center.
It opened its doors about two weeks ago.
The director says it is a first of its kind in the area.
