BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - Thursday, officers from around the state celebrated the memory of their fallen brothers.
The Louisiana Commission on Law Enforcement honored three officers today. The families of Officer Russell George, Corporal John Ray Kendall and Sergeant Paul Stuckey were given the Louisiana Medal of Honor. The ceremony recognizes officers who sacrificed to keep others safe.
"They want us to carry on and one day somebody will be able to say if I help somebody while on this journey then my living will not be in vain," said Lieutenant Charlie Jarrell, Jr. with the Department of Public Safety.
Since the program started in 1997, 72 officers have been given the Medal of Honor.
