Jerry "The King" Lawler will have heart surgery

(WMC-TV) - Jerry "The King" Lawler will have heart surgery Tuesday after suffering a heart attack during an WWE event Monday night.

The 62-year-old is in stable condition and is breathing on his own at a hospital in Montreal, Canada.

According to WWE.com, Lawler collapsed at the announcers' table and was given CPR before being rushed to a hospital in Montreal.

His girlfriend, Lauryn McBride, who lives in Memphis, issued this statement via Facebook:

"I'm getting on the first flight out of here to be with him and will keep everyone posted," McBride said.

Lawler's health scare hits close to home for us here at WMC-TV, too.  During his early career, Lawler wrestled right here in our studio during the 70s, 80s, and 90s.

Since then, he has returned to the Mid-South for dozens of shows and events.

Tuesday morning, the World Wrestling Entertainments sent this statement to our newsroom:

"We are hopeful Jerry makes a full recovery and returns to WWE in the near future. Our thoughts are with Jerry and his family."

Fans across the Mid-South are also standing behind the king during this difficult time.

#PrayforLawler has been trending throughout the night on Twitter.

Stay with Action News 5 and WMCTV.COM as we will have updates on Lawler's condition throughout the day.
