BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - Two elderly people are dead after a pickup flew into the air and landed on top of their car Sunday.

The victims were identified as Willie Ross Sr., 84, and Jonas Ross, 81. They were both from Baton Rouge.

The crash happened on US 61 near Pride Port Hudson Road just after noon.

According to the Louisiana State Police, Kenneth Cavin, 19, of St. Francisville was driving a 2006 Ford truck on US 61 when he lost control, crossed the median and went airborne.

Troopers said as it flipped, the pickup hit to top of the 1992 Mercury Grand Marquis Willie Ross Sr. was driving.

The two elderly men were pronounced dead at the scene.

Cavin was taken to the hospital, but investigators said his injuries are not considered life-threatening.

Troopers added a third vehicle was hit by some flying debris, but the driver was not injured.

They said they do not suspect impairment was a factor.
