BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) -
Two elderly
people are dead after a pickup flew into the air and landed on top of their car
Sunday.
The victims
were identified as Willie Ross Sr., 84, and Jonas Ross, 81. They were both from
Baton Rouge.
The crash
happened on US 61 near Pride Port Hudson Road just after noon.
According
to the Louisiana State Police, Kenneth Cavin, 19, of St. Francisville was
driving a 2006 Ford truck on US 61 when he lost control, crossed the median and
went airborne.
Troopers
said as it flipped, the pickup hit to top of the 1992 Mercury Grand Marquis
Willie Ross Sr. was driving.
The two
elderly men were pronounced dead at the scene.
Cavin was
taken to the hospital, but investigators said his injuries are not considered
life-threatening.
Troopers
added a third vehicle was hit by some flying debris, but the driver was not
injured.
Authorities
said they think Cavin may have been driving too fast.
They said
they do not suspect impairment was a factor.
Charges are
pending the outcome of the investigation.
