Diversion Canal residents still clearing mud from yards

Isaac may be gone, but he left a smelly trail along the Diversion Canal.

A thick slick of swamp mud coats most of the yards along the canal, as much as six inches deep in some areas.

Most residents have used shovels and pressure hoses to wash the mud out of their yards.  They blame lingering flood waters for the mess.

"As soon as the Pontchartrain started going down and Maurepas started going out, we knew we were going to be okay," said Vicki Brown. "It's just going to take a little time to get all the mud and silt out of everybody's yard."

If the mud wasn't bad enough, the fish from the fishkill that usually follows have just begun to float past the homes, adding to the stench.
