FEMA surveys storm damage in Iberville Parish

IBERVILLE PARISH, LA (WAFB) -

Iberville Parish didn't take quite the beating from Isaac compared to other areas of our state. But people who were impacted want to make sure they get the help they need.

A FEMA disaster assessment team visited approximately 25 homes and businesses damaged by Hurricane Isaac.

Some of the houses in Iberville Parish were covered in blue tarps, had trees snapped in half and suffered a loss of power during and after the storm.

FEMA visited residents who reported damage to their parish office of emergency preparedness.

Government workers looked at a variety of things on the properties including the extent of the damage, insurance coverage and how many people were displaced.

FEMA spokesperson, Gina Cortez, said the amount of time it takes to get storm victims their money varies.

"From the time the applicant registers it can take up to ten days for the applicant to receive an authentication from FEMA regarding whether he or she is eligible for financial assistance," Cortez said.

To report a claim call 1-800-621-FEMA.
