LSU alum Trindon Holliday makes Houston’s 53-man roster

From LSU Sports

BATON ROUGE – After exploding as one of the NFL's rising special teams stars during the 2012 preseason, former LSU Track & Field star Trindon Holliday earned his place on the 53-man roster for the Houston Texans as they prepare for Sunday's regular-season home opener against the Miami Dolphins.

Holliday solidified his roster spot in Houston's final preseason game on Thursday of last week as he made a third quarter 76-yard punt return for a touchdown in a 28-24 win over the Minnesota Vikings.

It was Holliday's third special teams touchdown of the preseason as he also opened the campaign with his first quarter 90-yard kickoff return for a score in a 26-13 win on the road against the Carolina Panthers on Aug. 11 and a fourth quarter 87-yard punt return for a touchdown in a 20-9 victory over the San Francisco 49ers on their home field Reliant Stadium in Houston back on Aug. 18.

Holliday wrapped up the preseason with 359 yards on nine kickoff returns for an average of 39.9 yards on each return and 211 yards on 10 punt returns for an average of 21.1 yards per return.

Holliday was drafted by the Houston Texans with the 197th overall pick during the sixth round of the 2010 NFL Draft before signing his first professional contract on May 17, 2010. After spending two seasons as a member of the practice squad and being placed on injured reserve, Holliday was signed to its active roster on Oct. 12, 2011, before making his NFL regular season debut on Oct. 23 at the Tennessee Titans.

"Trindon is a lot better football player than he was the last two years," said Houston Texans head coach Gary Kubiak of Holliday. "Trindon can go play on the offensive side of the ball. I think he's a much more complete player as far as us finding ways to use him. But what he did through the course of this preseason was exceptional and his spot on this team was well-earned."

Holliday is one of the greatest sprinters to ever lace up a pair of spikes for the Tigers as he was crowned a NCAA champion in the 100-meter dash during his senior season outdoors in 2009 when he recorded a PR of 10.00 seconds in the national final to wrap up his collegiate career.

A native of Zachary, La., Holliday was a four-time SEC champion and an eight-time All-American on the track during his collegiate career as the nation's leading two-sport standout.
