LAKE CHARLES, LA (KPLC) -
As women might tell you, it's all about
finding the perfect shoe. But Saturday,
it was the men who were on the hunt for that perfect fit.
Hundreds of men brought out their
best, or their wives best, high heels for the ‘walk a mile in her shoes'
campaign fundraiser.
"It's held nationwide and it's been
held in Louisiana several times now in different places like Shreveport and New
Orleans and Lafayette" said organizer, Tammy Vincent. "This is the second annual event here in
Lake Charles".
The event, which had a successful
first year, asks men to walk a mile in women's shoes to raise awareness for
sexual and domestic abuse.
"It's really good to see that people
are really taking a chance to respond to a very serious subject in a
lighthearted way so we can get them talking about it" said Vincent.
No matter whether bribed or dared to
participate, the men said the feeling of accomplishment is pretty gratifying.
"Pain and happiness" said Jacques
Benoit. "I like coming out here… my feet hurt, but I feel good that I did it"
he said.
It's all fun and games, until somebody
gets hurt. But even through pain, men
like Sgt. Brady with the DeQuincy police know the importance of the cause they
represent.
"Two twisted ankles is a small price
to pay for raising awareness for women in our parish for sexual abuse and
domestic abuse" said Brady.
