Miles ready for football and Ford

LSU head football coach Les Miles met with the media shortly after his weekly radio show Thursday night at TJ Ribs, saying he was happy his Tigers would be playing football Saturday night. However he was likewise sensitive to the Louisiana residents following Hurricane Isaac.

"In different areas of the state, major damage was done," Miles said, "You're trying to access casualties and what issues exist. It's not just as simple as….the stadium's ok. If the issue was…a lot of life and a lot of injury, I don't think there's any question we would not have played."

The coach also described the experience of the storm and his players eagerness to take the field.

"There's an eeriness with a storm. That noise, that sound, that wind…rain is constant. You get a little…cabin fever if you will. I think our guys really looked to getting back to practice today, doing something more on Friday and playing on Saturday. I think it eased everyone's mind when the official announcement came. The game was set for Saturday night in Tiger Stadium."

Miles also speaking about junior running back Michael Ford, who was cleared to play Saturday after winning an academic ineligibility appeal.

"We anticipated he'd be with us. We're glad he's cleared. I under the circumstances behind that, great decision."

Miles was then asked if junior Alfred Blue and sophomore Kenny Hilliard are still the starters at running back.

"They'll be a number of carries. Both of those guys will maybe start and get the early carries. I think Michael Ford will get carries also and play special teams."

The news wasn't as good for junior linebacker Tahj Jones, who was not cleared academically and will not play Saturday. Miles says that Jones is still allowed to practice with the team. The coach finally adding it's time to open the season.

"You don't practice football for fun. You practice to play a game. Frankly, we needed to play this game."
