UPDATE FROM TANGIPAHOA PARISH
CURFEWS:
The Town of Amite City will have a curfew from 10:00pm
tonight until 6:00am, Wednesday, August 29, 2012.
The Town of Independence will have a curfew from dusk
tonight until dawn, Wednesday, August 29, 2012.
POWER OUTAGES:
Entergy reports that nearly 4,000 customers in the Hammond
area lost power. Power has been restored to all but about 500 homes and
work continues to restore those as well.
TREES DOWN:
Storm winds blew down trees on N. Thibodeaux Road one(1)
mile North of Hwy 22 and on South Range Road. Parish crews have removed
the trees and have reopened both roadways.
SHELTERS:
Shelters are staffed to provide security and shelter
only. Residents who utilize the parish shelters should bring food, water,
bedding, medications, and any other personal items that they may need.
Shelter locations are as follows: Hammond West Side Elementary
Montessori School, Hammond Junior High Magnet School, Natalbany Elementary
School, Nesom Middle School, Amite High School, and Kentwood High Magnet
School. We encourage residents to check on the elderly in the
community. Residents who evacuate to shelters with pets: must have
the pet in a carrier, with an adequate leash, collar, food, bowls, and
medications. Please note that the pets will be transported to a separate
site for housing and care. PETS WILL NOT BE HOUSED AT THE SHELTER FOR
RESIDENTS.
