Southern head football coach Stump Mitchell said he would name his starting quarterback Sunday and he kept his word. But not by much.
Mitchell waiting until roughly 10:30 pm to tab junior Dray Joseph as his starter at New Mexico this Saturday. Joseph had been in an intense fall camp battle with sophomore JP Douglas for the gig before prevailing.
The Jaguars are certainly hoping Joseph improves in his third season. In 19 games of action he's only completed 51.6% of his passes for 2,661 yards. However Joseph has compiled 18 touchdown passes against only 13 interceptions. He split time with Douglas last season as the Jags finished 4-7 overall, following their 2-9 nightmare in 2010.
