SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA) -
The Shreveport Police Department is still investigating the death of 6 month old Lourdes Marie Duvall. So far, charges have not been filed against her father who is believed to have left her in the car Wednesday at LSU Health.
The child's death has been ruled accidental by Caddo Coroner Dr. Todd Thoma. Thoma also says that the child died of a heat stroke.
Authorities have not released the father's name because the investigation is still ongoing at this time.
"With the investigation being so new, in its infancy, it's not fair to say the name of that person," says Shreveport Police Cpl. Marcus Hines.
The circumstances of this case are similar to the 2006 death of a two year old by a Shreveport General Motors employee. The worker forgot his child in the car as he went into work. In that case the father did not face any charges because the incident was ruled an accident.
"Had this father left his child and said okay I'm going to go in for a few minutes , talk to my supervisor, I'm going to leave the child out there and then came back a few hours later it would be a whole different situation," said the Former Caddo Parish District Attorney Paul Carmouche about the outcome of that case.
Whether charges will be filed against the father of 6 month old Lourdes Marie Duvall will be determined during the Police investigation and then by the District Attorney's Office.
