Suspect in deputy shooting released from hospital

LAPLACE, LA (WAFB) -

One of the suspects in the shootings of four sheriff's deputies in St. John the Baptist Parish has been released from the hospital.

State Police say Brian Lyn Smith was then booked into parish jail for attempted first degree murder of a police officer.

A second suspect, Kyle David Joekel, remains hospitalized.

Five others, Terry Smith, Derrick Smith, Chanel Skains, Teniecha Bright and Brittney Keith have been arrested and charged in connection with the shootings.

Investigators say more charges against the seven are forthcoming as the investigation continues.

Deputies Brandon Nielson, 34, and Jeremy Triche, 27, were killed.  Deputies Jason Triche and Michael Boyington II were wounded.
