BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) -

Baton Rouge Police are investigating a shooting that happened late Saturday night involving an officer.

The incident took place in the 2700 block of Winbourne around 11:00 pm when an officer noticed a vehicle driving in a suspicious manner.  When the officer attempted to make a traffic stop, the driver of the vehicle got out and ran.  The officer chased the suspect behind a house and attempted to subdue him, but the suspect got away and ran back towards his car.  When the officer tried to capture the suspect again, he saw that the suspect was armed.  The suspect then began firing at the officer and the officer returned fire hitting the suspect in the shoulder. After being hit the suspect fled on foot again.

Responding officers set up a perimeter and were able to locate the suspect and take him into custody.  He was taken to a local hospital to receive treatment for his injuries and will be booked into EBRSO Parish Prison upon his release.
