A series of fires has prompted the recall of more than a million GE and Hotpoint brand dishwashers.
The Consumer Product Safety Commission announced the voluntary recall of about 1.3 million machines sold from March 2006 to August 2009 for between $350 and $850.
There were 15 reports of heating element failures. Seven of those failures resulted in fires, but three of those fires caused extensive property damage.
