Source: gojags.com"We're in the damn end zone! Don't let them score!" screamed Southern head football coach Stump Mitchell.
Sophomore quarterback JP Douglas had just zipped a beautiful touchdown strike to senior wide receiver Charles Hawkins, beating junior defensive back Virgil Williams in seven-on-seven drills.
On the very next play, Douglas fired a tight spiral on a corner route to junior wide receiver Lee Doss, who extended to make a spectacular scoring grab to beat senior defensive back Mychal Bell. That didn't make Mitchell happy either.
"What the hell are we doing defense?!!" erupted the coach.
The defensive backs responded with some nice breakups immediately after.
Douglas and junior QB Dray Joseph are in a hot competition to become the Jags' starter behind center this year. The two also worked individual drills with their fellow wide receivers, who went one-on-one with defensive backs. A very impressive, falling, over-the-shoulder reception by senior Justin Williams against tiny, freshman defender Sony Sanon stood out.
