BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) -

A 30-year-old man was arrested on vehicular homicide, DWI and other charges Thursday morning in connection with a crash in July that left a 48-year-old woman dead.

The Louisiana State Police said toxicology analysis showed Matthew Harding of Greenwell Springs had illegal drugs in his system when he collided head-on with a car driven by Nancy Pierce of Clinton on July 11.

Investigators did not identify the types of drugs detected.

The wreck happened at the intersection of Liberty Road (LA 409) and Greenwell Springs Road (LA 64) just after 10 a.m.

Pierce was pronounced dead on the scene by the East Baton Rouge Parish Coroner's Office.

Troopers said Harding's 2006 GMC pickup crossed the center line of Liberty Road and hit Pierce's 2005 Toyota Corolla.

Harding has been booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison on the following charges:

  • Vehicular homicide
  • DWI (3rd offense)
  • Reckless operation
  • Driving left of center
  • Aggravated obstruction of a highway
  • No seat belt
