Teachers take to the streets before school starts

BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - The first day of class is right around the corner for students in the Gardere area, so teachers from Highland Elementary took to the streets Monday to spread the word.

The teachers making the rounds in the heat say they want to encourage parents to come out on the first day of school and establish a relationship with the school. In the end, the teachers said they're all working toward the same goal of trying to ensure the success of the upcoming school year.

"We have some high expectations set for this school year. And we just wanted to get it started off on the right foot by making sure all relevant stakeholders are involved in the learning process, so that we can have some excellent scores and an excellent school year," said Sabrina Jenkins, 5th grade teacher.
