BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - Woman's Hospital made its historic move to a new location Sunday morning. The area's largest birthing hospital transported patients from its campus on Goodwood to its new location at Airline and Pecue Lane.
The old hospital is now officially closed.
In all, 121 mothers, newborns, mothers-to-be and cancer patients were taken by ambulance to the new hospital.
Tricia Johnson from Woman's Hospital says the move has been in the works for years.
"It's kind of like the athletes training for four years and their day is here. That's how we feel. We've been preparing for a long time and today's our day to win a gold medal," Johnson said.
The first baby at the new Woman's Hospital was delivered at 12:54 today.
