BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - Baton Rouge Firefighters have been busy this weekend, working three separate fires that broke out overnight.
The first fire happened just before 9:00 pm Saturday in the 1700 block of Progress Street. Fire investigators say the fire started in the kitchen of the home and spread into the den and attic area before being brought under control. The occupants were not home when the fire started but did return while firefighters were on the scene. Red Cross was called out to assist them.
Firefighters were then called out to another fire in the 6000 block of Blackberry Street. That fire broke out early Sunday morning just after 1:00 am. Occupants of the home say they noticed smoke and then found a mattress on fire. Firefighters were able to contain the fire to the bedroom. Investigators say this fire was caused by smoking materials that were not discarded properly.
A third fire broke out just after 5:30 am Sunday morning at the Lightning Bolt and Supply Co. in the 10000 block of Choctaw Drive. Investigators say the fire was caused by an electric malfunction that happened around an electronic scale in the warehouse portion of the building. Firefighters were able to contain the fire to the area where it started and extinguished it quickly.
