Medicaid fraud case turns murder mystery right before trial

A Baton Rouge Medicaid fraud case has now turned into a murder mystery.

New Orleans Police found Milton L. Woman shot to death last Friday. Womack is one of several people indicted in the nationwide Medicaid fraud round up. Womack's family believes he was killed because he was bout to testify in a Medicaid fraud case in Baton Rouge Federal Court.

Womack's attorney confirmed he changed his plea with the case about to start.

"I was shocked this is the kind of thing you may not be so surprised in a drug case. In a white collar Medicaid fraud case you do not expect potential witnesses to be murdered conveniently before they're about to enter a plea," said Mike Fiser, Womack's defense attorney.

Federal prosecutors say the case will move forward despite the setback.

A New Orleans Police Department Spokesperson, Remi Braden released the following statement. "We're working with our federal partners on this case, but at this point I can't say anything more than that. All I can do is encourage anyone with information about the crime to please call Crimestoppers at 822-1111."
