LPSO searching for tire, rim thieves

LIVINGSTON PARISH, LA (WAFB) - The Livingston Parish Sheriff's Office is searching for those involved in a rash of tire and rim thefts.

The thefts started July 9, 2012 in Watson and Denham Springs. Stock GMC and Chevrolet tires and rims were removed from the victims' vehicles. The tires and rims were taken while the vehicles were parked at their homes.

Five thefts have been reported in the Watson area, one in the Denham Springs area.

One of the victims has put up a sign on his street warning others of the rim and tire thefts.

"What everybody's been hearing - only stealing factory Chevy and GMC 20's.  Only the ones worth any value, sell them easily," said Brandon Howze, one of the victims.  He believes there are at least four people doing the dirty work.  "The truck was sitting perfectly level, it wasn't leaning."

Brandon Howze says two weeks ago, he woke to find his wife's truck had been hit.  "Oh, I was mad.  I was like what the hell."  He says the rims on her truck cost $2,500.  Howze says his own truck, was left alone.

He's since put wheel locks on his rims, which he says he advises others to do.  But he adds, the thieves may have a hard time committing their crime again.  "They left their jack at my house," he said.

Deputies say evidence from each scene is being analyzed in the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab.

Anyone with information is encouraged to call Crime Stoppers at (225) 344-STOP or the Livingston Parish Sheriff's Office at (225) 686-2241.
