TANGIPAHOA, LA (WAFB) - A Tangipahoa Parish man dies after contracting West Nile virus, according to a New Orleans television station.
The station says the cause of death was confirmed by his doctor. State health officials say they do not release the number of West Nile deaths until five people have died.
In this case, the victim is described as a 79-year-old dairy farmer. The last person to die from West Nile in Louisiana was in 2008.
Prior to this man's death, the Department of Health and Hospitals confirmed 33 cases of West Nile so far this year.
