Six sentenced for illegal benefits

BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - An East Feliciana couple and four women from Livingston Parish have been sentenced for illegally obtaining more than $100,000 in food and child care assistance benefits.

James and Luchan Miles of Clinton were sentenced to four years in probation and will have to repay $35,823 in benefits.  Luchan Miles failed to report James as a household member and James provided false information to the Department of Children and Family Service to help his wife get the benefits.

Penny Todd of Denham Springs will spend two years on probation and repay the $14,434 in ineligible benefits.  She didn't report her husband as a household member when applying for benefits.

Terica Jones of Walker received $6,889 in benefits after she failed to report her husband as a household member.  She was ordered to pay fines, fees, court costs and make restitution to DCFS.

Lolana Graves of Walker obtained $26,248 in illegal SNAP benefits by failing to report her husband as a household member.  She was sentenced to five years probation and will have to pay restitution.

Jennifer Maddox of Livingston will spend five years on probation for failing to report that her husband was living in her home, allowing her to receive $16,393 in benefits.  She will also have to repay the money to DCFS.

If any of the six fail to pay restitution, they could have their probation revoked and could be ordered to serve jail time.
