BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - A man has been arrested and charged with attempted first degree murder after a Monday night shooting at Longbranch Saloon in the 11600 block of Florida Blvd.
Police say the man arrested, Billy W. Hoover, 45, of Walker, La, went into the Longhorn Saloon at 10:30 p.m. in an "irate, aggressive manner."
According to police, one person approached Hoover and tried to calm him down, but a fight erupted between Hoover and the victim. The victim and other witnesses forced Hoover out of the bar and locked the doors.
Police say Hoover then went to his vehicle and grabbed a handgun. The victim, in fear of his life, armed himself as well. Witnesses tell police Hoover and the victim exchanged gunfire.
The victim was shot in his side and two other victims were shot in the leg. Police say none of the injuries were life threatening.
Hoover was found and arrested shortly after the shooting and charged with three counts of attempted first degree murder and illegal use of a weapon.
According to the Longbranch Saloon Facebook page, the bar is now closed. There is no word on when it will reopen.
