I-Team: IG receives letter from BR chief about possible civil service violation

BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) -

The Office of State Inspector General in Louisiana confirmed he has received a letter from the police chief of Baton Rouge to find out if one of his officers violated a civil service law.

Records show Lt. Caroline Odom with the Baton Rouge Police Department contributed $200 to Mike Walker's campaign for mayor.

The civil service law states no Baton Rouge police officer can directly or indirectly contribute to a candidate.

"Stay out of politics," Chief Dewayne White said about the matter earlier in the month. "Being a classified employee in civil service, that is strictly prohibited."

Any violations require the chief to terminate the officer.

Odom is a 31-year veteran of the department.
