Jonathan Vilma reported to Federal Court again today for another hearing on the season-long suspension handed down to him by NFL commissioner Roger Goodell and coach Sean Payton is nowhere near Saints headquarters still serving his one year suspension.
Seems like a regular day in New Orleans, but something is different, training camp begins today for a Saints team that has dealt with one of the toughest off-seasons any NFL team has gone through in the history of the league.
Will Smith, still fighting his suspension, is out the first four games of the season, Joe Vitt, named interim head coach, will be out the first six games of the season and Mickey Loomis, who thankfully got Drew Brees signed before the deadline, will watch the first eight games away from his office.
Sure there are a lot of questions:
Will the Saints be able to rally with the "Us Against the World" motto or will the loss of Sean Payton be too much for the team to handle?
Can new defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo ignite a defense that may very well have cost the Saints a chance at playing for their second Super Bowl victory?
Will Drew Brees show rust, will he struggle without his mentor or will the $100 million man lead the Saints to the promise land once more?
Can the Saints put behind the distractions of "Bountygate" they will undoubtedly hear about each week and concentrate on the task at hand?
So many questions, but finally we can look forward to getting some answers and have some fun with the Saints back on the field!
