DENHAM SPRINGS, LA (WAFB) -
Denham Springs City Councilman Christopher Davis was arrested early Sunday morning, charged with DWI and hit and run.
Trooper Russell Graham with the Louisiana State Police says Davis was booked into the Livingston Parish Detention Center around 5:30 a.m.
Troopers say his truck hit another car on Highway 16 near Amite Church Road. The driver of that car then called 911 when Davis did not stop. Deputies with the Livingston Parish Sheriff's Office responded and followed Davis to his home on Kennedy Avenue. State Police then arrived to take Davis into custody.
Investigating troopers say Davis did not have his driver's license or proof of insurance. He also refused to submit to a breath or blood test, so a warrant was obtained and a blood sample was taken.
Davis was booked on charges of hit and run, DWI, careless operation, flight from an officer, no driver's license on person and no proof of insurance.
Davis was reached by telephone Sunday afternoon and declined to comment on his arrest.
