Mettenberger has dreamed of this chance a long time

Zach Mettenberger is now on the big stage. As he pulled up to the podium at today's SEC Media Days he made an observation, "It is hitting me now. All these cameras in my face and this microphone graveyard."

It certainly is, the quarterback who watched from the sidelines last year is now in charge of a team that will be picked by many to play in Miami for the National Championship.

Head coach Les Miles talked about the difference between Mettenberger as a backup and  starter, calling it "night and day."

Mettenberger has looked forward to this chance a long time, "Being 'the guy' this year is something I've looked forward to my whole life."

Sophomore wide receiver Odell Beckham believes Mettenberger is more than ready to go, saying, "You can see it in his eyes, he's ready. He's going to lead us to a lot of victories."

The path to LSU has not been an easy one for Mettenberger, once pegged to be the starter at Georgia before being arrested and later dismissed from the team. Mettenberger said of his past, "My past has been of a immature kid. But I'm moving past that and proving differently now."

Mettenberger called the end of last season a "bitter way to end a great season."

Says Mettenberger, "Right now, we just need to worry about that first game, which is North Texas."

When Miles was asked about the strength of his running game with so many backs and linemen returning, Miles responded "I like our passing game," an indication that Miles' "Tiger Son" taking scheduled to take the first team snaps this fall might be ready to make LSU fans forget the Jordan Jefferson/Jarrett Lee controversies of past seasons starting with the North Texas season opener September 1.
