SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA) -
The Bossier Parish Coroner's office says a 4-year-old Bossier City girl has died from injuries she suffered in a drowning accident that killed her twin sister.
On June 24, Aubrie and Angel Smith fell into a pool in the backyard of a Bossier City home. Angel died at Willis-Knighton Pierremont. Aubrie went to Willis-Knighton South, where she remained until her passing just before noon Wednesday.
Aubrie's family says the girls were at the Bellaire Elementary School playground when they wandered away. Their mother told police they were gone in a matter of seconds.
The twins went through a broken fence into the backyard of a nearby home. They were found in the home's pool.
Just last week, Aubrie's family told KSLA even though the child was still in critical condition, but was slowly coming of the medications keeping her in a medically-induced coma. They were hopeful she would recover.
Just recently, the family of a 9-year-old Shelby Patrick, who nearly drowned at a party, reached out to Aubrie's family, asking the community to pray for the girls and their family.
Shelby nearly drowned at the East Ridge Country Club in Shreveport on June 2nd. She returned home Monday after recovering at a rehabilitation facility in Dallas.
The Patrick family met with the Smith family on July 6th during a visit to Willis-Knighton South.
An account has been set up in the children's names. Contributions can be
made at any Barksdale Federal Credit Union branch, under the account
name of Angel and Aubrie Smith.
