HOOVER, AL (WAFB) - LSU head coach Les Miles took to the podium Wednesday at SEC Media Days. He was joined by quarterback Zach Mettenberger, safety Eric Reid and wide receiver Odell Beckham, Jr.
This was Miles' eighth trip to Media Days as LSU's head coach and he stuck to the script he has used in previous years.
"It's a case of on your mark, get set and the season is a go," Miles explained in preparing for the start of the season.
The coach admitted to watching the replay of the Jan. 9 loss to Alabama in the National Championship, but Miles added this is a new year, which brings a new personality and team.
"Leadership comes from each position. It comes from each class," Miles said.
Zach Mettenberger will be making his highly anticipated debut against North Texas and hopes to re-energize an offense that, for most of last season, was inconsistent at best. Last year's offense struggled and looked sluggish through much of the latter part of the season.
Miles likes the way his quarterback is progressing.
"The difference between Mettenberger as a backup and Mettenberger as the starter has been night and day," Miles said.
Miles gave an answer that LSU fans will be ecstatic to hear when asked about the running game and offensive line experience.
"I like our passing game," he said.
It serves as an indication that Miles' "Tiger Son" scheduled to take the first team snaps this fall might be ready to make LSU fans forget the Jordan Jefferson/Jarrett Lee controversies of past seasons.
Fans hope the amnesia kicks in with the North Texas season opener on Sept. 1.
