Butterfly and Hummingbird Gardening!
Attract and enjoy butterflies and hummingbirds right in your own backyard! These beautiful and fascinating creatures will give you hours of enjoyment. Your "garden" may be a few containers of butterfly or hummingbird attracting plants or a sizeable garden with many different species of plants known to attract these winged delights.
Choose a sunny spot to help produce plants with an abundance of nectar. Butterflies especially will enjoy basking in the sun. Also provide an area of shallow water (maybe even add a few pebbles). Butterflies cannot drink from open water so they must have an area where they can rest and drink comfortably. Of course, hummingbirds will enjoy nectar from a feeder placed in the garden.
Choose your favorites from this list of plants to attract hummingbirds and butterflies to your garden! Remember to include some larval plants so butterflies will lay eggs in your garden and you can watch the caterpillars develop. Some good choices to get started are passion flower, milkweed and parsley.5696 Siegen Lane 292-9153274 N. Donmoor 927-141910645 Greenwell Springs Rd. 275-700631275 Highway 16, Denham Springs 791-6060
