HUNTSVILLE, AL (AP) -

Lawyers for a former Alabama university professor charged in a campus shooting rampage are asking the Alabama Supreme Court to order the state to pay expert witnesses for her insanity defense.

Defense attorneys for Amy Bishop argue in court papers that the state comptroller's office has improperly ignored orders by a judge to make payments to an expert psychiatrist and to the University of Alabama in Birmingham for neurological testing.

The 47-year-old Bishop is accused of killing three colleagues and wounding three others at the University of Alabama in Huntsville in February 2010. She was declared indigent, and taxpayers are paying for her defense against capital murder charges.

Bishop's trial is set to begin September 10th in Huntsville. Prosecutors are seeking the death penalty.
