BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - According to officials at ExxonMobil Baton Rouge Polyolefins Plant, the plant is experiencing heavy flaring due to a power outage at the site.
They say no community impact is expected at this time, and all appropriate agencies have been notified.
In a news release, officials say the flaring is a safe, environmentally approved measure to safely burn virtually all of the excess hydrocarbons that cannot be processed during a unit shutdown, slowdown or restart.
Flares are safety devices and are necessary to ensure the safety of the equipment on which personnel work.
Neighbors within a 2.5 mile radius of the plant have been notified with this information by ExxonMobil.
