BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - Will Kevin Gausman actually pass a $ 4.2 million signing bonus from the Baltimore Orioles, who drafted him fourth overall in the Major League Draft, to return for another season at LSU? Well the Times-Picayune is reporting Gausman is seriously considering making that move.
Gausman told the Times- Picayune, its a tough decision and his heart is at LSU right now. He also said he wants to win a College World Series, and feels they have a chance to do it with the guys returning.
Then he may have left the door open to signing with the Orioles when he said he has no problem going back to LSU and we'll see what happens.
LSU Baseball Coach Paul Mainieri released a statement saying, "Kevin is still in negotiations with the Orioles, and any reports portraying his return to LSU as definite are premature. This is a monumental decision in Kevin's life, and as much as we want him back with us, we also want him to do what is in his best interest. The signing deadline is at 4 p.m. Friday, so we'll allow the process to play itself out until that time."
The Orioles have until 4 p.m. Friday to sign Gausman to contract. If Gausman returns to LSU, he will have two years of eligibility remaining. Gausman went 12-2 with a 2.77 ERA, and had 125 strikeouts last year for the Tigers.
