BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - With the addition of Barbe Tight End DeSean Smith, LSU has a top five class in a couple of national recruiting services. Rivals now has the Tigers rated number 4, while 247 Sports ranks the Tigers at number 3.
Smith, a 4-star, 6-foot-4, 225-pound recruit committed to the Tigers on Monday, after rumors the Florida Gators were making a strong push for his services.
"Coach (Les) Miles was very excited, and he said I made his day and all that," Smith told 247Sports. "He couldn't stop laughing and just kept saying this was very big for me to give him the news. Coach Miles said there really wasn't much he could say other than that I made his day."
Smith was being recruited by Florida, Alabama, Florida State, Auburn, Clemson and many more teams, but could not wait any longer to make his decision known.
"I've been waiting to do it, and I just couldn't wait any longer," Smith said. "It's been hard to wait for two years to make a decision, and the last month or so I really thought about it a lot. After all of that, I said it's time to get it over with."
Last season Smith caught 43 passes for 764 yards for Barbe High School. He also had seven touchdowns.
Smith is LSU's 18th commitment of the season.
