CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) -
A babysitter has been indicted for murder in the death of a 13-month-old boy.
The Hamilton County grand jury indicted Marquita Burch for murder, two counts of endangering children, involuntary manslaughter, tampering with evidence and abuse of a corpse in the death of William Cunningham.
According to the Hamilton County Prosecutor's Office, Burch failed to seek medical treatment for Cunningham after she inflicted injury on him. The Hamilton County Coroner said that prompt medical treatment may have saved Cunningham's life.
Burch's original charges will be dismissed as they are now consolidated with her new charges.
Investigators say Burch was friends with Cunningham's mother and had been babysitting him for several weeks in her home. The child was injured on May 22 and died the next day. Burch put the child in a garbage bag after he died, and took him to her cousin's house on Friday, May 25. She then reported the child missing to police in Covington.
Covington Police started a massive search for the supposedly missing baby. On May 26, Cincinnati Police recovered the baby's body in the cousin's home.
The Hamilton County Coroner ruled the death a homicide as the result of a subdural hematoma.
