BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) -

A Baton Rouge district judge refused to set a bond for a man accused of shooting his pregnant estranged wife several times.

Judge Don Johnson denied bond for Frank Atkins Monday morning.

The 26-year-old is accused of shooting Kayla Atkins, 23. She is four months pregnant.

The Baton Rouge Police Department said the woman was shot in the neck and back while sitting in a car on Bay Street.

Atkins is charged with attempted second degree murder, illegal use of a dangerous weapon and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

He has previously been convicted of resisting an officer, simple battery, possession of drug paraphernalia, burglary and felony drug possession.

Atkins was arrested in 2011 in the murder of Bernard Lands, 51, but the charge was later dropped.
