BRIDGEPORT, CT (WFSB) -

An anonymous donor left a diamond engagement ring along with a wedding band in the chapel at St. Vincent's Medical Center in Bridgeport last Wednesday.

The rings were attached to a note written on a piece of bandage wrapper that read, "I would like to donate this ring to cancer patients. I had it appraised. My ring is worth $3,300. Thanks." It was signed "Cancer Survivor's wife."

The gift was found in the chapel in front of a statue of the Virgin Mary by hospital EKG technician, Margalie Alphonse. She attends Mass there daily and happened to notice the white envelope.

Alphonse brought the ring to St. Vincent's Medical Center President, Stuart Marcus MD.

Marcus ordered a check of security camera footage in the area of the chapel, which did not turn up any information on the woman's identity.

Marcus said "This woman has a very big heart, and we would love to find her and say thank you and let her know that we will put her very special gift to good use in serving cancer patients."
