LIVINGSTON PARISH, LA (WAFB) - The Livingston Parish Sheriff's Office reports an inmate died at the Livingston Parish Detention Center while deputies were restraining him during a violent outburst.
The inmate, Darrin Norton, 35, of Denham Springs, was booked into the Detention Center on Saturday, June 16, 2012 on charges of aggravated criminal damages to property, criminal trespass, and resisting arrest.
According to LPSO, Norton was being moved to an observation cell for his safety following reports of unusual behavior. Deputies say Norton became violent and at least two deputies were injured before Norton was restrained.
The Livingston Parish Sheriff's Office says Norton died during the violent outburst.
The Coroner's preliminary report shows Norton did not die because of the fight in the parish prison.
Lab results are pending and the matter is being investigated by detectives with the LPSO and Louisiana State Police.
