Saints' Romeus and Daniel sidelined with injuries

NEW ORLEANS (WAFB/AP) -

The Saints worked out this morning and interim head coach Joe Vitt had a team update, starting with a couple of player injuries.

The biggest news was that of Greg Romeus. The second year defensive end tore ligaments in his left knee and will miss the next six to eight months and in all probability the season. Romeus spent last season on injured reserve while rehabilitating his knee.

First team quarterback Chase Daniel missed practice as well after spraining his right thumb when he hit the helmet of a defender. While Daniel's hairline fracture won't require surgery he will not be able to throw for the next three weeks.

The coach commented on his new his television viewing, Vitt says he now watches the History Channel, "cause I don't watch ESPN anymore."

The New England Patriots contacted the Saints today and are trying to work out plans for joint practices in Foxboro. A decision will be made in the next 24 hours on whether the team will make the trip.

Vitt believes this may be the most talented team the Saints have had since coming to New Orleans, and feels he has a very big obligation to the city and team.

No news conference could be held without a Drew Brees question and the coach feels confident that Brees will be signed by the end of July in time for training camp.
