More than 25 percent of children in Louisiana don't have access to enough nutritious food on a daily basis. Imagine if that were your child. It's tough to think about.
That is why it is so important to think about what you can do to help the Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank. Historically, donations are down in the summer, but the demand is up as children are out of school.
The food bank has fed the hungry in our community for more than 25 years. Last year alone, it distributed nearly eight million pounds of food in 11 parishes and it relies on community support to meet that need.
Between now and July 9, it's easy for you to get involved and help those who depend on the food bank. Just look for the "Check Out Hunger' placards at area food stores and you can add a donation to your bill.
And, a little goes a long way. For every one dollar donated, the food bank provides 7 meals. Some stores will even have a barrel, where you can donate a food item such as a canned good if you prefer. Click here for a complete list of stores participating in Check Out Hunger
This community has always been generous. Thank you for helping the food bank provide this essential service.
