Driver dies after hitting pole and getting ejected

BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - Authorities said a 30-year-old man died in a single-vehicle crash early Monday morning.

The East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff's Office said Joshua Thomas died after hitting a pole and getting thrown from the vehicle.

Deputies said it happened in the 8000 block of Mickens Road around 12:25 a.m.

Investigators said Thomas was headed eastbound when he veered off the road and slammed into the pole.

They added he was not wearing a seatbelt and got ejected.

EBRSO said it is believed speed was a factor in the deadly wreck.

Per standard procedure in deadly accidents, a sample of Thomas' blood was sent to a lab for chemical analysis.
