Pregnant woman fighting for life after attempted murder suicide

BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) -

Baton Rouge Police are investigating what they are calling an attempted murder suicide that happened Tuesday afternoon. The shooting happened just before 2:30 p.m.

Police found Benny Johnson, 27, lying in the rear bedroom of a home in the 4000 block of Tuscarora Street. Police say he was lying next to a 31-year-old female and they both had gunshot wounds to the head.

Johnson was pronounced dead at the scene. The female victim was taken to a hospital and is listed in critical condition. Witnesses on the scene say the woman is pregnant.

Police say it appears the Johnson shot the woman then himself. The woman's name and the condition of her unborn child has not been released.

Police are asking anyone with information on this shooting to call the Violent Crimes Unit at 389-4869 or call Crime Stoppers at 344-7867.
