OLATHE, KS (KCTV) -

Tornadoes in Kansas certainly are no rarity and one during a special day like a wedding can be devastating. But for one central Kansas couple, a tornado last Saturday is one they will never forget, and they've got the pictures to prove it.

"This is from an engagement shoot I did with Caleb and Candra," Cate Eighmey said.

Eighmey, an Olathe photographer, has shot some pretty scary and strange things.

"This is a picture of them from their engagement session with one of his bulls in the background," she said of shooting the same couple's engagement photos.

But Eighmey had no idea what would be behind the couple the next time she shot pictures of them.

"Maybe a third of the way through the ceremony we looked back and there were tornadoes down and they were on the ground, and they came down and went back up a couple of times throughout the ceremony," Eighmey said.

The couple, Caleb and Candra Pence, could not believe it. Tornadoes were crossing by as they were getting married.

"We were all watching and we saw a tornado starting to form. Then my uncle, who was marrying us, said ‘let's get the wedding on the road,'" Caleb Pence said.

Home video the couple's uncle shot shows the twister looming off in the distance to the right of a building.

Candra Pence said, no matter what the weather, the wedding was going to happen.

"I leaned over and told Candra there was a tornado forming up by Harper while we were doing our unity stand and she said ‘I don't really want to hear about that right now,'" Caleb Pence said.

"I heard something about a tornado and I was like ‘I really don't want to know.' I would probably freak out about it, so we just continued on," Candra Pence said.

With their eyes on the sky, the couple admits they were starting to get a little concerned. But, like in every good marriage, it came down to trust.

"He said not to worry about it, he's been around them his whole life, and I trusted him," Candra said of Caleb.

"We were walking down the aisle for the first time after we got married and a tornado was behind the shop, so we just took pictures of it," Caleb Pence said.

"He's seen tornadoes all his life. It was my first tornado. I was scared when I first saw it. I didn't know what to think about it," Candra Pence said.

"You've got a Kansas tornado, a Kansas wheat field, a cowboy and his bride. It doesn't get much more Kansas than that," Eighmey said.

The couple, who met at a rodeo, is currently honeymooning in Wyoming.
