HARDEMAN COUNTY, TN -
(WMC-TV) - The Federal Bureau of Investigation confirms the two bodies found in Alpine, MS, are those of Jo Ann Bain and Adrienne Bain, the mother and daughter who disappeared from their Hardeman County, Tennessee home on April 27.
Right now, investigators believe Adam Mayes is still on the run with 12-year-old Alexandria Bain and 8-year-old Kyliyah Bain.
"We are still searching for Adam Mayes," Union County Sheriff Jimmy Edwards said.
The FBI, U.S. Marshals, and state and local police finally organized a massive manhunt after new leads in the case determined the Bain family was in extreme danger. The command post in Guntown, Mississippi, quickly filled with heavily armed officers who will work around the clock searching Union County.
"We can't say that he is in this county. We can't say that he's not. Don't have anything to confirm or deny his whereabouts," Sheriff Edwards says.
While officers search for Mayes and the two young girls, Union County residents are asked to report anything suspicious.
"We all want him to be caught. There's nothing fun or light-hearted about it," says Guntown resident Joanie Reap.
"There's certainly need to be aware and cautious, but don't want anybody to be overly afraid," Sheriff Edwards urged.
The FBI is offering a $50,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of Adam Mayes and the location of the two girls believed to still be with him.
State troopers and FBI agents spent the afternoon digging in the backyard of the home where the bodies were found, searching for additional clues.
Police would not comment on what they were looking for in the yard.
Adam Mayes' sister-in-law, Bobbi Booth, lives outside Chattanooga. She had shocking things to say about what her sister told her about the murders. Teresa Mayes, who is married to Adam, is behind bars in Hardeman County.
"My sister told me things, yes," Booth said.
Booth said Teresa told her Jo Ann and Adrienne Bain were murdered by Mayes.
"She knew he dug the grave. That was my understanding of the conversation with her because I was yelling at her. I'm like 'You what ? You know.' What she said, 'I saw him digging a hole,'" Booth explained.
Adam and Teresa Mayes lived in the Alpine, MS, home with Adam's parents Mary and Johnny Mayes. Action News 5 learned that Mary Mayes is also in jail, according to Vinelink. Hardeman County will not say what she is charged with.
On April 27, Jo Ann Bain and her three daughters disappeared. Their car was found in a field not far from their Whiteville home. Her husband, Gary, reported them missing. The car is now sitting in the Bain family home driveway, just released by investigators. Adam Mayes was very involved with the Bain family. Many photos of him with the three girls are surfacing.
Bobbi Booth says that Adam has relatives in Florida and they believe he is coming for a visit. Booth says investigators are now in Florida now looking for Mayes.
Mayes may be using the aliases Christopher Zachery Wylde or Paco Rodrigass. He should be considered armed and very dangerous. Call 1-800-TBI-FIND with any information.
