LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - Sweet treats, mimosas and brunch fare greeted guests at the Farmington Historic Plantation during Derby morning.
Before they were whisked away to the track, more than 100 ladies and gentlemen enjoyed a breakfast feast. The $1,000 a table affair and $125 tickets supported The Historic Homes Foundation. It may seem like a pretty penny to begin Derby Day, but organizers say the proceeds make an impact throughout the year.
"This our largest fundraiser of the year and its becoming increasingly difficult for non-profits, particularly keeping historic house museums to stay afloat, so we're certainly thrilled," said Guthrie Zaring, Historic Homes Foundation event organizer.
The money raised Saturday helps maintain and keep sites open to the public. Three historic homes, including the Farmington Historic Plantation, Thomas Edison House and Whitehall House & Gardens are presently owned and managed by the Foundation.
