BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) -

The East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff's Office released new details on the investigation of a body found in the trunk of a burned-out car on the levee.

The victim's body was discovered Tuesday morning by police patrolling the levee south of Gardere.

The suspect, now identified as Jason M. Mascarella, 36, of St. Gabriel was arrested Wednesday night. Mascarella has been charged with second degree murder.

According to police, Mascarella shot Roderick White, 33, at a mobile home then put White's body in the trunk of a car and drove it to the levee and set the car on fire. Mascarella then went back to the mobile home and set it on fire. The mobile home is behind Mascarella's parent's home in St. Gabriel.

Investigators have not released information on how Mascarella got back to St. Gabriel after he set the car on fire.

Authorities say Mascarella was just released from EBR Parish Prison on April 25, 2012. There is no word on why he was in jail.

Mascarella is currently being held in the Iberville Parish Jail.

Family members of White are asking for financial help. If you would like to donate, you can do so at any Chase Bank in Roderick White's name.
